Bukuyum Local government Chairman Appeals for More Security in Southern Communities of the council.

The Chairman of Bukuyum Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Alhaji Umar A. Faru, has called on the Federal Government to provide additional security personnel to Southern Bukuyum, particularly in the Adabka, Kenne, and Gwashi communities, where bandits continue to operate.

Alhaji Faru made the appeal while briefing journalists at the end of a meeting with critical stakeholders of the council held in Bukuyum.

He explained that, the affected communities have become strongholds for bandits, who launch attacks at will, posing a serious threat to lives and property.

According to him, residents in Northern Bukuyum are currently enjoy relative peace, stressing that, insecurity remains a major challenge in the southern part of the council.

The chairman further appealed to security agencies to adequately equip officers deployed to the area with the necessary fighting equipments and  ensure the prompt payment of their allowances to boost morale in confronting the bandits.

"In our continuous effort to build a safer, stronger, and more united Bukkuyum, a strategic meeting was recently held with key stakeholders of our Local Government. We deliberated extensively on crucial matters affecting us, particularly in the areas of security, revenue generation, and indigeneship"

Alhaji Faru commended Governor Dauda Lawal for his unwavering commitment to the fight against banditry, aimed at restoring peace and stability across the state. 

He described the governor as a leader dedicated to achieving positive development across all sectors of the state’s economy.

The chairman also disclosed that since he assumed office, his administration has been working assiduously to explore new revenue generation strategies to enable the council to execute developmental projects.

He urged residents of Bukuyum Local Government to renew their indigene certificates to standardize and authenticate them.

"On the issue of indigeneship, it was brought to light that the issuance of indigene certificates in the past lacked proper verification, sometimes allowing individuals without true roots in Bukkuyum to benefit from privileges meant for our genuine sons and daughters. This negligence has adversely affected our people in many ways"

Alhaji Umat Faru also announced that,  issuance of Bukkuyum indigene certificates is now digitalized, unified, and centralized.

According to him, the new system will be  administered jointly by the Bukkuyum Local Government Authority, the Legislative Council, and the Bukkuyum Emirate Council.

While all the existing holders of the old indigene certificates were advised to liaise with their respective District Heads for immediate renewal and update to the new digital format.

Faru called on all citizens to support the initiative and cooperate with their District Heads during the renewal process.




Federal University Gusau Appoints First Female Substantive Registrar.


The Governing Council of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Zamfara State, has approved the appointment of Hajiya Nafisa Barau Suleiman as the 3rd substantive Registrar of the institution.

A statement by the Head of the Media and Communications Committee of the University, Dr. Linus Akor, said the appointment was ratified during the Council’s 29th meeting, held from April 22 to 25, 2025, in Abuja.

According to the statement, Hajiya Nafisa Barau Suleiman, who holds an M.A. in English Language from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), becomes the first female Registrar in the 12-year history of the university.

Before her appointment, Hajiya Nafisa had been acting as Registrar following the completion of the tenure of the former Registrar, Malam Yakubu Anivbassa, on February 4, 2025.

She previously served as Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, overseeing the administrative and related activities of the office. 

She also served as Faculty Officer for the former Faculty of Humanities and Education before it was split into two. Additionally, Hajiya Nafisa represents the University Convocation on the current Governing Council.

The statement further highlighted that the new Registrar had earlier held key administrative positions, including Senior Staff Officer (Establishment Division) and Head of the Staff Development Office.

The University Management expressed confidence that Hajiya Nafisa’s extensive administrative experience would significantly contribute to the effective running of the Registry and wished her Allah’s guidance and support in her new role.

Zamfara Government Sets Up Committee to Tackle Predicted Flooding.


The Zamfara State Government has taken proactive steps to address the predicted flooding across 31 states, including Zamfara, by constituting a committee to develop an action plan for flood mitigation.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Kasimu Sani Kaura, disclosed this during a stakeholders' meeting on strategies to mitigate the anticipated flooding in the state.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Information Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, the Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Rilwanu Musa Zurmi, said the committee is tasked with identifying potential solutions to minimize the impact of flooding.

The committee is chaired by the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency, Alhaji Muhammad Zangina Abdullahi, with the Executive Secretary of the State Forestry Department, Malam Kabiru Habibu, serving as secretary. 

Other stakeholders were also named as members, to ensure broad collaboration in developing effective strategies.

According to the Commissioner, the formation of the committee demonstrates the Zamfara State Government’s commitment to environmental.

Zamfara Teacher Recruitment: Over 8,000 Apply for First Batch of 500 Slots, AGILE support the process.



The Committee overseeing the recruitment of teachers in Zamfara State has received over 8,000 applications for the first batch of 500 qualified teaching positions, as part of the planned recruitment of 2,000 teachers across the state.

This initiative aligns with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project’s mandate to improve girls’ education in Zamfara.

The Chairman of the Committee and also for the State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Tukur, disclosed this during a radio live programme in Gusau, the state capital. 

Alhaji Tukur was accompanied by the State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, who is serving as the deputy chairman of the committee.

He explained that, the recruitment will be conducted in four phases, with 500 teachers to be recruited in each phase, stressing that, the approach is to ensure a smooth and efficient process.

Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Tukur emphasized that, only applicants with relevant qualifications are encouraged to apply, in order to maintain the integrity and quality of the exercise.

According to him, the first batch of recruitment will focus on core science and technical subjects, including English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, ICT, and Technical Drawing.

He further noted that, an online portal was opened for qualified candidates to apply, with a two-week window provided for submissions. 

Saying that, each phase of the recruitment will follow a similar process, with the required subject areas clearly stated to guide applicants.

Alhaji Tukur stressed that priority will be given to candidates from local government areas and communities near schools, to address the recurring issue of absenteeism and ensure timely reporting by teachers.

The Chairman reiterated the commitment of Governor Dauda Lawal to revamping the education sector in the state.

“As we all know, the state of education has been deteriorating, to the extent that students are struggling to perform in NECO and WAEC examinations. Despite numerous challenges, teachers have continued to give their best. Upon realizing this situation, His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal, approved the recruitment of 2,000 new teachers,” he said.

He added that the phased recruitment of 500 teachers at a time is to ensure that only the most qualified candidates are selected.

The AGILE project is supporting the recruitment exercise as part of its broader efforts to improve learning outcomes and empower adolescent girls through quality education.

Easter: Kaduna IDPs Urge Nigerians to Remember Them Amid Hardship

As Christians around the world prepare to celebrate Easter, marking the end of 40 days of fasting and prayer, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kaduna State are calling on Nigerians not to forget them during the festivities.

The IDPs, currently observing the Lenten season, expressed their desire to celebrate Easter despite the difficult conditions they are facing. 
Many of them were displaced from their homes in Chikun Local Government Area due to persistent attacks by bandits and kidnappers, and are now struggling to survive in new communities.

Speaking to journalists at the Maraban Rido IDP camp, Camp Commander Comrade Sule Adams shared that most of the displaced persons live in rented houses and cannot afford basic necessities. “Many of us can’t even eat three times a day,” he said.

He explained that while the IDPs are preparing for the Holy Week like other Christians, they lack food, drinks, and other essential items to mark the occasion. Comrade Sule appealed to Nigerians, NGOs, civil society organizations, and wealthy individuals to support the IDPs with food and other materials, so they can celebrate Easter with joy.

He emphasized the urgent needs of widows, orphans, youths, and other vulnerable individuals in the camp, adding that assistance in the form of humanitarian aid and educational materials would go a long way in improving their lives.

One of the displaced women, who preferred not to be named, called on the government to intensify efforts in tackling banditry so she and her children can return to their village and continue farming. “Life in the city is too expensive. We want to go back home,” she said.

Meanwhile, the District Head of Maraban Rido, Mallam Auta Alkali, also known as Sarkin Kudansa, praised the efforts of corporate organizations and civil society groups for supporting victims of banditry. 

He also thanked the Kaduna State Government for its continued assistance to the IDPs.

Zamfara Government Launches Weekly Preaching Sessions for Women to Promote Moral, Spiritual Development


The Zamfara State Ministry of Women and Social Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has launched a weekly preaching session aimed at reinforcing moral guidance among women in line with Islamic teachings.

Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Aisha M.Z. Anka, urged women across the state particularly market women, housewives, civil servants, and residents to actively participate in the weekly spiritual gatherings.

Dr. Anka noted that the initiative was conceived by women and for women, with the objective of fostering spiritual empowerment.

"We are empowering families, communities, and ultimately, the entire state. When our women are guided by the teachings of Islam, they become exemplary mothers, responsible citizens, and agents of positive change," she said.

The preaching session, themed “Submission to Allah,” is part of the state government’s commitment to strengthening spiritual values and promoting moral discipline among women, who serve as the backbone of families and communities.


In her message, the wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, applauded the Ministry’s efforts and pledged her support for the program.

"I am deeply passionate about reviving the spiritual consciousness of our women. I commend the Honourable Commissioner and her team for this timely and much-needed initiative," she said.

Hajiya Huriyya further promised to work closely with the Ministry to ensure that no woman is left behind in the journey toward Islamic enlightenment.

"Together, we will build a God-fearing generation of women and children," she added.

The first preaching session was delivered by Malama Aishatu Mohammad Kantin Sauki and focused on fostering spiritual growth, encouraging personal reflection, and reinforcing moral principles in accordance with Islamic values.


Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barr. Suwaiba Ibrahim Barau, expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved in the successful launch. 

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining the sessions as a continuous source of knowledge and inspiration for women across the state.

The Zamfara State Head of Service, Alhaji Yakubu Sani Haidara, emphasized the government’s dedication to the spiritual and moral development of its citizens.

He directed all female government employees to participate in the weekly sermons, noting that the initiative would enhance unity, discipline, and spiritual growth in both the public sector and the broader community.

The event recorded an impressive turnout of women and was marked by a strong spirit of devotion, reflection, and communal unity. 

Attendees were encouraged to embody the principles of submission to Allah and serve as moral exemplars in their homes and communities.



Tsafe Emirate Installs Jamilu Kogo as Magajin Garin Tsafe III.

The serving Treasurer of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council and Staff of Legacy New Paper has been turbaned as the Village Head of Tsafe South and also conferred him with traditional title of Magajin Garin Tsafe III.
The prestigious turbaning ceremony took place in Tsafe town, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Shortly after the ceremony, the 18th Emir of Tsafe, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, charged the newly installed Magajin Garin Tsafe III to lead his people with the fear of God, compassion, and a clear vision for development. 

Alhaji Bawa urged him to initiate and support efforts that would bring progress and transformation to his domain.

The Emir also called on him to support government initiatives aimed at addressing the lingering security challenges in Zamfara State and across the nation.
The event was attended by members of the journalism profession, including NUJ Zamfara State Council Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Musa Maizare; and the Council Secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Ahmad Gada among many others.

Other dignitaries in attendance included the Vice Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, Muhammad Sidi Ibrahim; Chapel Secretary, Aminu Abubakar Mayanchi; Chapel Auditor, Comrade Bala Muhammad; among others.

Zamfara Government Reaffirms Commitment to Promoting Religious Activities.

Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to support and promote religious activities towards uplifting the spiritual and moral well-being of its citizens.

Governor Dauda Lawal made this known during a weekly preaching session organized by the State Ministry for Religious Affairs, held in Gusau, the state capital. 

The Governor represented by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sulaiman Adamu Gummi commended the initiative and lauded all critical stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring the success of the session.
Dr. Lawal emphasized the importance of religious engagement in shaping public moral upright and spiritual upbringing.

Delivering a keynote lecture, a renowned Islamic scholar Malam Bashir Sani Yahuza highlighted the importance of total submission to the will of Allah.

Malam Bashir Sani stressed that adherence to Islamic teaching is key to achieving success in both this life and the hereafter.

He explained that the theme of the session, “Submission to Allah”, was carefully chosen to promote spiritual enlightenment, moral discipline, and deeper religious devotion among citizens.
Earlier, the Zamfara State Head of Service, Alhaji Yakubu Sani Haidara, reiterated the government’s directive mandating the attendance of all civil servants at the weekly preaching sessions. 

He underscored the significance of such gatherings in fostering unity, discipline, and spiritual growth within the workforce and the larger society.

The session which served as a platform for reflection, spiritual renewal and reinforcement of Islamic values drew participation from government officials, civil servants, religious leaders, and members of the public.

Radio Nigeria observed that the Ministry is committed towards instilling moral values and nurturing vibrant society through consistent religious engagements and community outreaches.

NACC Honours Governor Dauda Lawal with Leadership and Community Service Award.

The Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC) has honoured Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State with its prestigious Leadership and Community Service Award.

The award was presented during the chamber’s 65th anniversary celebration, which also featured the inauguration of its 20th President, Alhaji Sheriff Balogun.

The event, held on Saturday in Lagos, brought together distinguished Nigerians and Americans, including key government officials and members of the business community.

According to a statement by the spokesperson to the Zamfara State Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the NACC, Nigeria’s first bilateral chamber of commerce, operates as a membership-based trade organization committed to fostering economic ties between Nigeria and the United States.

Governor Lawal was honoured alongside his counterparts from Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, and Lagos states.

“The event, themed ‘The Power of Cooperation: 65 Years of Optimizing Nigerian-American Economic Relations,’ celebrated individuals and leaders who have significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral relations and economic development,” the statement noted.

The Chamber highlighted Governor Lawal’s strides in promoting commerce and agriculture in Zamfara State. 

He was specifically recognized for his exceptional leadership, academic accomplishments, and dedication to addressing insecurity.

“Governor Lawal has made notable progress in improving the lives of the people of Zamfara through investments in healthcare, education, agriculture, and various empowerment initiatives,” the statement added.

In his remarks while receiving the award, Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to service delivery and inclusive development.

Gov. Lawal Mourns Zamfara Assembly Member, Hon. Aminu Kasuwar Daji.

Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Hon. Aminu Ibrahim Kasuwar Daji, the lawmaker representing Kauran Namoda South in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Governor extended his condolences to the leadership of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the family of the deceased, and the people of Kauran Namoda South.

According to the statement, a delegation from the state government led by the Deputy Governor, Mallam Mani Mummuni, attended the burial of the late lawmaker in Kauran Namoda.

“On behalf of the state government, we convey our heartfelt condolences to the Speaker, principal officers of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the family of the deceased, and the people of Kauran Namoda South," the statement read.

“In this moment of sorrow, we pray that Allah provides the bereaved family with strength and comfort, and may He forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him eternal peace,” the Governor added

Zamfara SSA Forum Hails Appointment of Comrade Abdulmajid Anka as Deputy Chief of Staff.

The Forum of Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has expressed optimism and satisfaction over the recent appointment of Comrade Abdulmajid Rabi'u Anka by the state governor.

In a statement issued to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer of the forum, Mustapha Jafaru Kauru, said the Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Bello Acha (Sarkin Yakin Gusau), described the appointment as well-deserved and timely.

Alhaji Bello Acha noted that Comrade Abdulmajid Anka, a committed and active member of the forum, was appointed to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Gusau. 

He stated that with this development, the number of forum members who have been either elected or appointed to strategic positions in Governor Lawal’s administration has risen to six.

While congratulating Comrade Abdulmajid on his new role, Alhaji Acha urged him to leverage his vast experience in public service to contribute meaningfully to the realization of the governor’s six-point rescue mission, which he said is already yielding positive results in uplifting Zamfara State and aligning its development with that of other progressive states.

He also called on other members of the forum to remain committed and rededicate themselves to the service of humanity, noting that serving under Governor Dauda Lawal’s rescue mission is both a privilege and a source of pride.

The chairman further pledged the forum’s total loyalty and unwavering support to the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal, expressing confidence in its success now and beyond 2027.
