Zamfara Govt Hosts Stakeholders’ Workshop to Review State Electricity Policy and Bill.

The Zamfara State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has hosted a one-day stakeholders’ workshop to review and validate the State Electricity Policy and Bill In a major move to expand energy access and strengthen the power sector.

The session, held under the leadership of the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Alhaji Lawal Barau and was represented by the Director Mechanical, Mr Sanusi Mande, who underscored the importance of the initiative to the state’s long-term energy reform agenda.

In a statement issued by the Information Officer of the Ministry, Jamilu Bello, the Commissioner described the workshop as a critical step toward developing a unified and forward-thinking electricity framework capable of transforming the sector and improving supply across the state.

While welcoming the participants, Alhaji Lawal Bungudu expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their commitment to strengthening the electricity sector in Zamfara.

He noted that the workshop marks a significant milestone in the present administration’s determination to close existing gaps in the power value chain, adding that the Ministry is ready to collaborate with all actors to achieve practical and sustainable energy solutions.

The workshop, organized in collaboration with the Zamfara State Electrification Agency (ZEA) and S2R Consulting, brought together key players in the electricity ecosystem, including government officials, private-sector partners, legal experts, community representatives, and technical professionals. 

Delivering the keynote address, the Executive Secretary of ZEA,  Muzammil Muhammad, emphasized the need for a strong and future-oriented electricity policy that would guide the state toward a stable and reliable energy landscape.

He explained that the State Government remains committed to creating a conducive environment for investment, efficient power generation, and improved distribution systems.

As part of the technical presentations, an energy expert from S2R Consulting, Mr. Lanre, delivered an insightful lecture on the Electricity Act 2023 and its implications for Zamfara State. 

He highlighted new opportunities arising from the Act, particularly regarding the expanded regulatory powers granted to states and how Zamfara can leverage these provisions to strengthen electricity governance.

Participants at the workshop commended the Ministry and its partners for initiating such a timely effort, noting that, improved electricity supply is crucial for stimulating economic activities, enhancing security, and raising the standard of living for residents across Zamfara State.
