He made the pledge when he paid a courtesy visit to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Gusau, Zamfara State, to assess the condition of inmates and explore possible areas of intervention.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, who was accompanied by members of his traditional council and other dignitaries, was warmly received by the Controller of Correctional Service, Zamfara State Command, Murtala Muhammad Haruna, alongside management staff and the Officer-in-Charge of the facility, CSC Bello Umar Ambursa.
Speaking during the visit, the Emir said his visit was aimed at showing solidarity and fatherly concern to both staff and inmates. He commended the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for its steadfast commitment to the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders into society.
Alhaji Bello also urged the inmates to embrace discipline, patience, and the various skill acquisition programmes provided by the Correctional Service to enable their successful reintegration into society after release.
In his remarks, the Controller of Correctional Service, Murtala Muhammad Haruna, expressed appreciation to the Emir for the visit.
He also described the visit as a great encouragement to both officers and inmates and assured the Emir of the Command’s continued collaboration with the traditional institution in promoting correctional reforms and enhancing community safety.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Officer-in-Charge of the Centre, CSC Bello Umar Ambursa, highlighted some cases involving debts and family issues that might require the Emirate’s intervention. He thanked the Emir and members of his council for their compassion and visit.According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Zamfara State Command, Assistant Superintendent of Corrections , Mustapha Abubakar said highlights of the visit included a special prayer session for peace, stability, and progress in Zamfara State and Nigeria.
