The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised alarm over the alleged deployment of armed thugs by the state government to intimidate voters in today’s House of Assembly bye-election in Kaura Namoda Constituency.
The party’s Publicity Secretary in the State, Yusuf Idris Gusau announced this in a statement claimed that, the suspected thugs, allegedly working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were seen in Kaura Namoda town and Kasuwar Daji village on Friday night.
According to him, the men were armed and wearing uniforms of the state Community Protection Guards (CPG), despite a ban by security agencies with a sole motive to threaten and intimidate innocent citizens that will participate in the bye election.
He stressed that, the development poses a threat to peace and could endanger citizens participating in the election.
Yusuf Gusau also alleged that, firearms were being stockpiled for possible use in the 2027 general election.
"This also indicates and confirmed APC's alert that the state government is hiding firearms to be used during the 2027 general election"
"Over a year ago, we raised complaint against governor Dauda Lawal, his government and the PDP using guns through their thugs to harass innocent people in the state that at a point some people were killed in the state capital while the trigger happy thugs were part of a motorcade escorting the governor to his residence"
The party said it had formally written to security agencies in the state to investigate the matter and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The party publicity Secretary urged the National Security Adviser (NSA) to investigate the source of the alleged firearms, seize them, and ensure that those found culpable face the law.
